Architectural Glass Solutions completed the installation of commercial solar film, SL-180 to all windows of both towers of the Plaza of the Americas in spring of 2006.
Installing this product reduced electricity costs and stabilized temperatures through out offices with the product reducing 83% of the sun’s solar energy.
The calculation of the energy savings from the DOE2 software package revealed a three year payback on the investment. Keep in mind there was existing solar energy film on the building that was removed first and had an estimated heat reduction of around 60%. The three year payback was calculated from just the increased energy efficiency for jumping to an 83% heat rejection product.
The SL-180 product had an added feature compared to the original product, a dual-reflective coating. Dual-reflective coated products help eliminate back reflectivity of a film at night when interior light is on, hence allowing for vision out of windows at night. This was important due to the downtown Dallas location of the Plaza Towers.
The installation labor and product is warranted by the manufacturer for 15 years.
