Architectural Glass Solutions was contracted to consult and install a solar film solution to reduce heat and glare for the lobby of Amazing Explorers Academy for children in Prosper, TX.

The existing glass is a double pane Low E. The film solution had to be a product safe to apply to this glass type and create synergy with the existing Low E coating in the glass. Optitune 15% solar film by Avery Dennison reduces heat gain by over 80% and the glare by 90% while taking out 100% of the UV rays when applied to Low E glass. The product and labor are warranted by the manufacturer for 15 years, covering 100% of the labor and film. It was the perfect solution for this situation, and for many others.

The results were instantaneous and kept the Academy management from purchasing highly expensive motorized roller shades, which would not have performed as well. While a good choice in some situations, roller shades are less effective at blocking the sun’s heat, and can be a fire hazard. They also require maintenance to remove dust from time to time. Solar film, on the other hand, is a thin, transparent film that is applied to windows to reduce heat gain and glare. It can be used on any type of window, in any climate, and it is very effective at blocking the sun’s heat. Additionally, tall or wide windows can be easily covered at a fraction of the cost of custom shades.
